James Goodchild CD Case/Digipack

Here are my mock designs that I came up with for the front and back cover for a non-existant Spandau Ballet album:

I went for a Black and Gold colour scheme which I think emphasises the meaning of the album title. Having a man staring straight into the lens shows that he is directly connected with the album, but this is contrasted by only seeing half his face. I added a Gold tint to his face with a Golden Glow behind him giving a sense of depth while adding a bit more interest to the overall cover.
On the back I added a made up track list using a user generated list of Spandau Ballet's top songs. Behind the titles I added a show of a street in black and white but with one house highlighted with a Golden glow. Because the album's name is 'Coming Home' I thought that it gave the album itself it's own story and added further interest to the album.
At the bottom I added a Warner Bros logo as a record label, a generated barcode (I Googled Barcode Generator and used the first link), I then blagged some text in the middle about when it was produced and other information.
This is the digi pack cover I have created for our music video. I decided to keep it quite simple as I thought this would be more effective however I included highlights of gold to keep to the theme of the song.

We also thought of were different colour leg warmers also be a good thing to use as well as sweatbands

GOLD - Original Video analysis

Spandeau Ballet - Gold (Original) and Lyrics

This is the original music video for "Gold" by Spandeau Ballet. It features the band lip-synching and playing the song, with the lead singer, Tony Hadley, chasing a girl who's stolen one of his golden puzzle pieces. We will make use of a few features of their original video, such as the costuming. In the original video, Tom Hadley wears a suit and also makes us of taking off his sunglasses for dramatic effect which we think is effecting. We also like how gestural he is, reflecting the strong beats of the music, so we think we may do a similar thing to this, but really overdo it, almost like a spoof.

Lyrics:

Thank you for coming home
I'm sorry that the chairs are all worn
I left them here I could have sworn
These are my salad days
Slowly being eaten away
Just another play for today
Oh but I'm proud of you, but I'm proud of you
There's nothing left to make me feel small
Luck has left me standing so tall
Gold
Always believe in your soul
You've got the power to know
You're indestructible
Always believe in, because you are
Gold
Glad that you're bound to return
There's something I could have learned
You're indestructible, always believe in
After the rush has gone
I hope you find a little more time
Remember we were partners in crime
It's only two years ago
The man with the suit and the pace
You know that he was there on the case
Now he's in love with you, he's in love with you
Love is like a high prison wall
But you could leave me standing so tall
Gold
Always believe in your soul
You've got the power to know
You're indestructible
Always believe in, because you are
Gold
Glad that you're bound to return
There's something I could have learned
You're indestructible, always believe in
(Musical interlude)
For love is like a high prison wall
And you could leave me standing so tall
Gold
Always believe in your soul
You've got the power to know
You're indestructible
Always believe in, because you are
Gold
Glad that you're bound to return
There's something I could've learned
You're indestructible
Always believe in

Spandau Ballet - Gold Idea 1

IDEA 1
  • Intro (0-30s) ="- Walking in in tights etc with bag on back, puts back on floor and warms up
  • Small ... Tall - high angle on person singing, drops to low angle then dramatically look round
  • On beats before gold - Close up on face dramatically turning left and right to face camera which changes sides on beat until the 'Gold' where they are lifting a weight and looking into camera
  • Always believe - Dancer get ready for something over dramatically, running shot, leaping shot, close up of horrified face, distorted limb on indestructible.
  • Gold 2 - back to person in suit, taking of shades looking into the camera and people rush to help in front. Suited person 'doesnt see them'
  • Fade to black on distorted limb

IDEA 2
  • Intro (0-30s) ="- Walking in in tights etc with bag on back, puts back on floor and warms up
  • Small ... Tall - high angle on person singing, drops to low angle then dramatically look round
  • On beats before gold - Close up on face dramatically turning left and right to face camera which changes sides on beat until the 'Gold' where they sing into the camera
  • Walks confidently into dance studio where there are other dancers doing stuff properly and then starts dancing as if they are doing it right, but actually are very bad.
We are thinking of using our second idea because, even though it is still comical, it's not as ridiculous as the first one.wscddewsax

One Minute Music Video Analysis

THE GOOD
Eternal Flame

PERFORMANCE
The performance was good. It was controversial and original with a contemporary feel.

LIP SYNCING
It was good. It was in time to the music and looked believable, although it was a man singing a woman's song. Like Justin Bieber.

PROPS, COSTUME + LOCATION
There were a few props used which were flower petals, a willow tree and a candle. They were used effectively and enhanced the mood of the song. The costume was not typical of what you would expect a man to wear, but worked well with the rest of the video adding a comedic element. The location was very natural which made his dress blend in well.

IDEA
The idea was original and creative. The addition of the cross-dresser added much needed comedic value to what would have otherwise been a boring video.

10/10

THE BAD
Eternal Flame

PERFORMANCE
The performance was mediocre, extremely boring and painful to watch. At the beginning one of the people laughs which is unprofessional and made the video worse. The other person moved too much and it was SO ANNOYING. O M G.

LIP SYNCING
The lip syncing was okay, but you don't notice it that much when someone's head is flying about everywhere. OMG.

PROPS, COSTUME + LOCATION
There was a candle which wasn't even in colour, the costume was okay and the location was dull and if there was any colour they removed it so it looked even worse.

IDEA
The idea has been done many times, and it wasn't even done very well.
